The key principles of Osteopathy are based on the understanding that if one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body adapts and compensates for this. Ultimately, these maladaptive compensation patterns lead to inflammation, pain, stiffness, nervous system dysregulation and other health conditions. When adhesions and restrictions are freed through an Osteopathic treatment, the BodyMind will experience improved pain management, nervous system regulation, improved immune functioning and greater overall mobility allowing the innate intelligence of the body to heal itself.
A Manual Osteopathic Practitioner is trained in five main types of hands-on Osteopathic sub-disciplines:
Osteoarticular Adjustments, Advanced Myofascial Remodeling, Visceral Manipulation. Manual Lymphatic Drainage and, Craniosacral Therapy.

Rather than focusing on the Mind alone, as do talk-therapies like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), somatic therapy focuses on integrating mindfulness, body awareness, breath awareness and body-orientated tools to guide the client towards resolving maladaptive emotional and physiological patterns. It aims to assess and map out each client's unique Nervous System and to track, through the skill of Interoception, how the Body holds stress, trauma and patterned tension through emotions, sensations and different bodily states. Using a somatic lens in therapy views the client as a whole, unique individual; gently guiding one back into relationship with the truest version of the Self. Somatic therapy has been shown to be highly effective in alleviating the symptomology of (c)PTSD, Developmental Trauma, Attachment Disruptions and Addictions of all kinds.
